MANHWA REVIEW : BASTARD

BASTARD A PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR

Ahoy! manga readers hope you all doing well good. Today we are talking about some of my favorites manhwas there which I find interesting in every way. This Manhwa is a perfect blend of horror and mystery my favorite genres well. The manhwa we are talking about is Bastard.

Bastard is a horror, mystery, romance, dram manhwa series written by Kim, Carnby (STORY) Hwang, Young-Chan (ART). Bastard has a score of 8.58 on MAL. Let's move on to the synopsis now after the basic introduction of this manhwa.

SYNOPSIS: Seon jin A school student can't find relief anywhere in his life the thing Seon is most afraid of all his ruthless life is his dad. For the world, Jin's father is a normal caring parent and a successful business but in reality, he is a psychopath and a serial killer. For many years his father kept things hidden from the police but when his father takes an interest in a transfer student Yoon Kyun Jin decided to be enough of being a coward and be the bastard of a son who defies his wicked parents,

STORY: The story is really enjoyable even though it might look complex at first. It deals with a what-if situation of your dad being a psychopathic serial killer. One of the better things in the story is how the main character isn't that all too good of a guy either. He too is a kind of psychopath in his way which makes the story an interesting anti-hero story. The story is also constructed in a way that makes you hyped for the next chapter without relying on cliffhangers too much. Also, the whole atmosphere of the manhwa is creepy and dreadful and makes it perfect for jump scares as every horror psychological thriller should be.

ART: The art was drawn Young-chan is not the best and is not something genre-defining, to say the least, but is perfect for the whole tone and genre of the story. The characters are drawn pretty well but the peak of his art comes from the expressions of the characters. To be honest, it is nightmarish and plays an important role in making the dad of the main character ultra-creepy and scary.

CHARACTERS: The characters are hands-down are one of the best I've seen in a psychological thriller in a while. The main characters of Bastard are the Main Character, his dad, and the new transfer student. To start from the main character, he is done in a way that makes him relatable and not relatable at the same time and makes you root for him regardless of his immortal actions later in the story. The dad isn't even needed to talk. He is a psychopath but that doesn't define him fully as he is this fully-fledged manipulative, sociopathic, hypocritical bastard that you will hate without a doubt. The third main character, the transfer student is also written in a great way as she is not a frail girl who screams for the main character's help all the time and is a strong woman worthy of respect

OVERALL: I read this manga when I was just starting to read the manhwas and it was really really enjoyed that I finished it one night (I do not recommend reading it during the night tho). Overall, the art, characters, and story fit really well and make it an excellent read for a psychological horror thriller. As the writing is awesome, the whole story feels realistic and makes it scarier which should be the aim of a genre like this. So, if you are going for a good psychological horror-thriller, I wholeheartedly recommend Bastard

That's it for a short review and I hoped you liked it. Feel free to share your suggestions in the comments.

Thank you for reading...
