5 Depressing Manga That Will Make U Cry

Depressing and HeartBreak Manga

5 Sad manga

Hello Reader,

Kei here

Anyone must have seen at least one depressing anime or depressing manga like 'clannnad' or 'anohana' and might've even cried (I don't blame you, I did too). Now you want to read something like that again and came here and that's exactly what I will be blogging about. Even though I can't promise you that you will get too sad and cry, at least I can guarantee all of the manga will be depressing to a degree and I am trying to include wholesome + depressing manga too. So... without further ado, let's dive in

(depression warning 😁😁)

Number 5

Rental Oni-chan

As the synopsis goes - "A lonely elementary schooler realizing her brother's frequent neglect and complete 180 in character after their parent's death, rents a boy to act as her big brother but how long will this pretend play will last and will her situation gets better ?". The first thing about this manga is how the title is and for that, I want to say - 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. No, it is not 18+. No, it doesn't have explicit scenes. No, it is not some borderline hentai. It is a depressing story dealing with bullying, abuse, and neglect and it shows there are good people in the people besides all the creepy assholes. So... if you want something depressing and wholesome, go for it

9/10 for me...

Number 4

Ningen Shukaku

As the synopsis goes - "The story follows Yozo Oba who have a hard time showing his true self to others due to a weak constitution resulted from abuse from relatives in his childhood". Originally written as a novel by Osamu Dazai and regarded as his autobiographical work, has many manga adaptations. From a neutral standpoint, the best experience to get is from reading the novel but the manga adaptations don't pale that much in comparison. The most renowned manga adaptations are written by Usamaru Furuya (2011) and Junji Itou (2017). Both have a unique way of adapting the original work into manga and so I recommend reading both of them. Just a reminder, neither does it have a good ending nor a non-explicit representation. So... if you are into a really... really depressing story and a bad ending, go for this

9/10 for me...

Number 3

Kimi ni Aisaretta Itakatta

As the synopsis goes - "A girl with inferior complex who engages in prostitution to prove her self-worth, meets a baseball star who likes her and the story follows their relationship ultimately resulting in the death of the girl by the boy". This one was supposed to be included in the insane manga list but this is more depressing than insane so here it is. To say it in few words, this is 177013 but a manga. So, it goes without saying how depressing and grotesque it will be. The story deals with the peculiar trait of teenagers called attention-seeking and the subsequent inferior-complex born from it. It is not a happy story or a normal romance in the slightest so don't read it thinking of that. So... if you want to read a manga version of 177013, go for this.

8/10 for me...

Number 2

Oyasumi Punpun

As the synopsis goes - "Oyasumi Punpun is a coming of age story of a simpleton whose life is forever changed when he sees his father abusing his mother". This one is a well-known manga having a rating of 9 on mal but like all items on this list, it is far from being a gleeful coming-of-age story. To say the least, it is highly realistic and can happen to any of us resulting in a highly relatable story. It deals with subjects like rape, suicide, depression, etc... and lots of 18+ scenes. So... if you are ready to read a depressing tale of a boy growing up from a child to an adult, go for this one.

8/10 for me...

Number 1

Shounen no Abyss

As the synopsis goes - "a boring kid living in a boring town living a boring life meets a girl who changes his life forever". This one is Oyasumi Punpun but suffering increased a hundredfold. Instead of focusing on a coming-of-age or drastic change on A due to B, it shows how people are not how they seem. It portrays themes like suicide, depression, etc... to an excessive degree. Everyone in the story is suffering and is flawed which makes this one a really depressing read and relatable to a degree. So... if you want something like Oyasumi Punpun but more sufferable, read Shounen no Abyss.

9/10 for me...

That's it for this list, Hope you found this useful and interesting
