The sports genre is mostly stereotyped as a genre only about a specific sport and not much about story art etc. But if you think the same then you are missing some really good stuff. Personally, the sports genre is always been an interesting genre for me which introduces me to different sports and thrill.
Well, today am gonna talk about 5 of my personal favorite sports manga that you should try.
Let's start our top 5 with one of the most famous manga of the sports genre.
1. Slam Dunk
Slam dunk a simple story with a great plot and work. Those who have read it will never say that reading this manga was not worth it. Slam dunk was written by Inoue Takehiko and it's also his first drawn series. This is a comedy, shounen, and sports manga with a rating of 9.02 on MAL. The story moves around Hanamichi Sakuragi a teenager who used to hate basketball becomes a basketball player to make Haruko Akagi a girl whom he likes to make fall in love with him. This manga has won the award for best shounen manga.
2. Haikyuu
Now this one is my favorite sports manga bcoz of a good story with good humor. This manga is a perfect balance of sport and comedy written by Furudate, Haruichi. This is a comedy-shounen sports manga with a rating of 8.90. This is a story about a short-height boy named Shouyou Hinata who wants to be the next small giant and become the best ace now Hinata with his team are on a mission to be the best. Art style storytelling and character development everything is up to the mark.
Haikyuu won the Manga Award for the Shounen category in 2015.
3. Ashita No Joe
This is the best Boxing Sports manga of all time. Ashita no Joe is a Shounen Sports Slice of life manga written by Kajiwara, Ikki with a rating of 8.92 on MAL. This is a story about an orphan boy named Joe who grows in a slum. Danpei his coach believed in him that he has the potential to be the greatest boxer but Joe has some other plans. How our champ fight through all difficulties and aim to be best is fun to read.
4. Ballroom E Youkoso
This is something different from normal sports manga. Ballroom E Youkoso is a Rom-Com Sports Shounen manga written by Takeuchi, Tomo with a rating of 8.39 on MAL. Tatara Fujita was bullied and teased all his life he was a guy with no dreams. Things change when Kaname Sengoku a dance instructor he choose to change his image and learn dance and enter into a new world.
5. Blue Lock
Blue Lock is a manga based upon sport Football with great artwork and story. Blue lock is a sports shounen manga written by Kaneshiro, Muneyuki with a rating of 8.43 on MAL. The story of this manga is not like other manga in which Sportsmanship and Friendship are important in this manga there is Selfishness and Egoism which makes it different from others. Ego jinpachi the new Coach who introduces a new training system for the best striker for the national team in which he isolates 300 young strikers through a new rigorous training program " World's Greatest Egoist Striker".The sole survivor of this program will join the team as a striker.
Won Award in Shounen category this year.
